A Little Disillusioned
Hey, all. (or whoever still hangs around here, i haven't seen a soul here in over a month)

I have to say, I am a little disappointed.

I've been hanging around both here and Heartless Fics for, oh, going on three-four years now. It's my sanctum for sanity in this nucking futs fandom. I love this place, the logic, the amazing writing, and the friends i've made.

But recently, it seems like this community has...I don't know. Started to crumble? I haven't seen a soul here in a month, and likewise on Heartless Fics. Posting has gotten few and far between, and a lot of my favorite sporkers have disappeared.

Not the reason for this post, though. It really hurt to see the really nasty argument in the comments of a recent spork. Now, I see how both sides were right, don't get me wrong. This isn't about the contents of the spork OR the argument. This is about why did we have to have an argument in the first place? We're supposed to be a bastion of logic, common sense, sanity, and tolerance in the KH fandom. Even though there were valid points in the argument, why did it need to be an ARGUMENT? Why did it have to get as tense, uncomfortable, and downright nasty as it did? We're sane fans, we've all been friends for a while. Can't we get along? It almost feels like we're beginning to act like the kind of fans we generally rant about.

I would really, really hate to see both communities die over this. I miss you guys. Every day I check both comms and see no new posts, I lose a little hope.

Please, remember what we're SUPPOSED to represent. If one of us has a problem with something in a post, can we please be civil about it, not start another argument and get the entire comm involved? If not, PM the OP and talk privately. I would hate to see the comms die.

TL;DR: Please come back and don't let the comms die; we're all sane fans here and I would hate to see a few arguments destroy what's been built.

Can't speak for anyone else, but at least for myself, I'm still participating in the fandom a lot, but I don't post here because I don't really have anything to rant about. Maybe I've just mellowed out a lot regarding stupidity in fandom, maybe I've just regulated myself to only hanging in fandom spaces with friends I trust, IDK.

Also, it may be important to keep in mind that just because people are friends or are sane fans doesn't mean they won't argue! Arguments can pop up between the best of friends.

Of course, I didn't see the H_F deal, so I dunno what that's about. \o_O/

I think a lot of it is that the original members of this community have mellowed out in general. I barely see anyone around here anymore that started off, but that was also a long fucking time ago.

The heartless fics thing was ridiculously civil.

Person a says something stupid.
Person a is called on it.
Person a apologises with a proper apology that isn't a ridiculous fauxpology.

That is the very definition of civil, it doesn't even constitute as an arguement.

I'll also note, I try to save khffr for when I have kh specific rants. More general rants go straight to ffr.

Could just be that the fandom itself is well past its prime and most fandumb is old news. Ranting about it would just be a broken record. Pointing out "wat" worthy things from tumblr or deviantART privately to friends is as much effort fandumb is really worth anymore, to me. If it's really bad, I just confront the person myself on those sites. This comm isn't really all that necessary.

As for the Heartless Fic thing... If it's what I'm thinking about, I can't say much on that; I only skimmed that stuff via the anonmeme awhile back. Compared to the usual RP wank (KH or otherwise), thaaaat was pretty civil.

There's nothing to rant about anymore, really. This fandom is basically, well, dead.

As for Heartless Fics, I've stayed away from there because if I want wank or to make fun of things, I go over to ONTD. I never really got the point of that community, because making fun of people's fanfiction is fine in rant communities, but I really don't understand using time and energy to make fun of a fic when I could be writing my own, or doing something productive. Like the dishes, or brushing my teeth.

Also, LOL FOREVER, that was my fic that got sporked.

I think pretty much all of us have "moved" in some way or another. Be that moved their ranting to other places, moved away from dealing with the woes of fandom (there's only so many times "stop bashing Kairi" can be said), or moved on from the game itself. I know I'm in the latter. Permanently or temporarily is to be determined, but right now I'm just sick of it. I retired my keyblade (...or chakrams. I think I always had chakrams...) last year as I just got tired of game after game after game after game with no mention of when this series was going to move forward. Birth By Sleep was the last straw for me. I don't even know what the hell I'm playing anymore. This doesn't feel like the same game I fell in love with, and there doesn't seem to be any signs of returning to that as I hear yet another game on yet another console is coming out. Yay for adding rounds people have been asking for for years, but it's a little late for some of us. I am absolutely disillusioned.

Maybe when KH3 is release people will come back here? But times are changing for LJ communities as it is. All the KH peeps I knew spend all their time on Plurk or Tumblr these days, so if you're looking for the KH fandom, LJ might not be the place.

I do hope that when KH3 is released, the fandom gets revitalized. I've only been into KH for about a year. I'd hate for the fandom, as insane as it is, to die.

As for me, part of the reason I've only posted one rant is because I'm not actually surprised by a lot of the stuff fandom does and I know that ranting about it doesn't usually change much. And then there's my tendency to move to different fandoms. It's been a habit of mine for years. I'll get into a fandom, stay in it for awhile, then read or see something about a different fandom and move there. Then I'll see something about the first fandom and go back.

Your comment made me really sad for some reason.

Heartless Fics primarily died with Ryune. That's pretty much the end of it. I'm the only mod left, and all I do is click the "approve" button whenever I get a notif in my email. If I could, I would happily pass off the comm to someone else because I honestly don't give a fuck about the KH fandom anymore. If something happened on HF that may have been even remotely wanky, then I didn't hear anything about it, lmfao. I don't even read the sporks.

Depending on how desperate you are I could pick it up under a pseudonym like I've done for a couple of other abandoned things.

Eh, the community pretty much crumbled a long time ago. People moved on and found new things and the ones who are left in fandom seem to have become rather insular and stick to their friends' lists or Plurk or Tumblr. It's kinda sad to see it die, but what can you do? *shrugs*

And while I didn't see the arguement in question, well that's hardly anything new. It's the internet, people will always argue about everything. There have certainly been some doozies here before and I doubt it really has anything to do with the decline.

When it comes to KH fandom, I still love the game, I still love RPing it, I still love fawning over pretty arts, and that's where my involvement ends. I jumped ship on being active in the KH fandom a long time ago because of the rampant batshit and stupid, moved onto other fandoms I love dearly and can be active in with minimal suck. I don't post here because I have nothing to post.

I've been super wary about rant communities on LJ because a lot of them are super-duper PC and will dogpile the fuck out of people for saying things that can be un-PC if you try hard enough. I loved KHFFR because it didn't fall into the PC rant community trap, people could be free to rant instead of having to be nice about it.

idk what's going on with Heartless Fics. I'm just going to assume since it's LJ someone got offended and it blew up. I'm batshit for mocking crap fanfiction but even HF got pretty samey in its snark after a while. There's only so much "LOL SOMEONE MADE A SUE FOR RIKU" I can take before I demand new material.

As others have said, I don't really check out KH fandom anymore no I just get all worked up over sasusaku and ATLA which is still active, whuuut?
I'll talk about it with my friends (in fact I just did an RP with one over text...) But, I guess I was never extremely active anyway, so it was easy to slip out.

There's a thriving KH fandom on Tumblr? OFF I GO!

Tumblr's pretty active in terms of KH fandom, yeah. It's not exactly the easiest to navigate due to the way tags work, though, and there are no filters at all so it's impossible to avoid running into yaoi porn. =P

There are definitely a few outstanding gems in Tumblr's giant heap of stuff, though -- for example, Ask Blogs are a neat idea (if particularly inclined to demonstrate Fan Dumb tendencies) and there are a few really good ones out there.

Not sure about the others, but I don't really have anything to rant about. XD
Except the Baby Roxas fiasco, which is being dealt with as we speak and better suited for Heartless Fixs.
I could go find something right now, I guess, but that just defeats the purpose, and if I'm looking for something to rant about, I'm going to be jaded towards everything I find anyway.
So... yeah.

Hey, still up for that RP-thing we were working on?

Well, I rejoined the community because of this post, despite it being submitted quite a while ago. I was formerly a member under a different username, back when this fandom was my heart and soul.

This fandom is the one that time can't erase - I keep coming back to it and find myself, like you, devastated that parts of it have greyed out of existence. I have saved on my PSP the urls of nearly 140 fics and about a third of them are completely gone -- those were my livelihood, at one point. AO3, the newest great fanfiction archive, has such a small collection of KH fic (I'm working on one to add at the moment) and what's there is mostly from the old days. The truth is that the Kingdom Hearts fandom is already so well past its prime -- it's not the cause of some cataclysmic fandumb accident, it's just growing old. The rants have all been done, and a lot of rant material has been removed. People don't care anymore. I'm one of those people that's still not ready to move on completely, so I linger.

I missed the H_F debacle so I have no comment there. :p

I missed you guys. I miss 2006-2009. Ah, the golden years.
